General Pre-Surgical Instructions

Our office has been accredited by the AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), a nationally recognized association for excellence in healthcare delivery.  Our standard of care is comparable to a hospital in that we are required to maintain a higher standard of care compared to other non-accredited facilities.

We utilize Board Certified MD Anesthesiologists from North American Partners in Anesthesia [N.A.P.A].  With a Board Certified MD Anesthesiologist administering your anesthesia, Dr. Lynn Pierri, your surgeon, can commit 100% of her focus on your procedure.

You’ll awake in our comfortable recovery room where a registered nurse, certified in post-anesthesia care, will provide you and your driver with home-care instructions tailored to fit your needs.

The criteria listed below must be followed by our patients undergoing anesthesia.  It’s important to remember that:
  • You are to have nothing to eat or drink past midnight including mint and gum chewing. (for I.V. & G./A. cases)
  • If you are a woman within your child bearing years, our anesthesiologists will ask you to consent to a pregnancy test before your surgery. Although this test is not mandatory, you will be asked to sign a waiver should you deny consent. (for I.V. & G./A. cases)
  • Intravenous Sedation is termed “conscious sedation” (not a true general anesthetic); therefore some recall may occur post-operative
  • No cell phones or any other electronic devices are permitted in the operating room because they interfere with the monitoring equipment
  • No contact lenses / Please bring your glasses on the day of surgery
  • If you use an inhaler, Please bring it with you on the day of surgery
  • No Aspirin products 7-10 days before surgery
  • If you are taking Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin, or any blood thinners for a condition, you should ask your MD whether these medications can be stopped prior to your procedure
  • Wear loose fitting clothing and short sleeves
  • For 24 hours, do not drive or operate machinery/electrical tools or household appliances
  • For 24 hours, do not drink alcoholic beverages, or make any important decisions
  • For 24 hours, do not do any strenuous activities i.e.: bicycle riding or skateboarding etc.
  • You must have a driver who can stay with you and drive you home
  • If you have a cold or any sudden change in your health, please call us with as much notice as possible if you are sick.  We may have to postpone your surgery until you are no longer sick.
  • Patients over 50 years of age will require an EKG. Depending on your health history, the Anesthesiologist might require a written medical clearance. In this case, it’s very important that you call your physician and make an appointment to be seen for the purposes of obtaining medical clearance. Some physicians will not complete the medical clearance form unless they see you in person.
  • Surgery schedules can sometimes be unpredictable. We thank you in advance for your patience.
