Because of the close relationship to the sinus, many times when a tooth is extracted, it will leave a communication between the mouth and the sinus. Therefore it is important to follow these instructions:
- Take prescriptions as directed. These will consist of some combination of the following, depending on the individual case:

- Keep from blowing your nose for two weeks, but if you must sneeze or blow your nose, keep your mouth open.
- Do not sneeze or cause pressure.
- Do not use a straw or smoke a pipe.
- Drink clear fluids, then full fluids, then eat soft foods for several days- chewing on the opposite side as much as possible.
- Do not rinse the mouth vigorously for several days.
- Stitches must remain for 10-14 days.
- Avoid milk products.
